COVID-19 coverage

Emergency Medical Coverage

  1. All travelers

    Up to $10 million in COVID-related medical expenses for all travelers regardless of their vaccination status. All standard policy terms and conditions apply.

  2. Travelers who have had COVID-19

    If you have had a recent COVID diagnosis, positive test, or symptoms, you could still be covered for COVID-19 medical while you travel, if you purchase our pre-existing condition waiver. All standard policy terms and conditions apply.

Trip Protection Coverage

  1. Trip Cancellation - before you go

    We will reimburse all eligible non-refundable, prepaid expenses if, while still in your home province, you, an immediate family member, or a travelling companion contract symptomatic COVID-19, the symptoms still persist within the 14 days of your intended departure date, and are serious enough to require you to cancel your trip.

  2. Trip Interruption - after you leave

    After departure, if you or your travelling companion experience a COVID-19 Illness, positive test result, or Quarantine that causes your trip to be interrupted we will pay the following:

    • Up to $300/person/day to a maximum of $6,000 per policy for accommodation, meals, essential phone calls and taxi transport.
    • Up to $500/person to a maximum of $2,500 per policy for additional transportation costs (including flight change costs back to your departure point or to your next destination mid-trip).

Kids go free

Kids 21 years of age or younger get $10 million in free travel medical insurance when travelling on the same certificate as at least one adult. Terms and conditions will apply.  Does not apply to Trip Protection.

First Payer

If your Extended Health Plan with Pacific Blue Cross includes out of province/country coverage, your Pacific Blue Cross Travel Plan will pay first, so your lifetime maximums are protected should a serious injury or illness occur on your trip.

Pre-existing coverage

What is a pre-existing condition?

Depending on your age and the plan you choose, any doctor’s visit or medical concern that you had in the 3 or 6 months (the stability period) prior to your Effective Date of coverage could be an indicator of a pre-existing condition.

By choosing our optional Pre-Existing Condition Benefit, that stability period is reduced to only 7 days! To make sure that you are covered as thoroughly as possible, always consider adding this option to your Emergency Medical plan.

Not every pre-existing condition can be covered. Please refer to the policy exclusions for more detail.

Trip Protection

You can add the following individual benefits to your plan. Choose a package and save:

Trip Cancellation
Coverage for non-refundable, pre-paid travel expenses if your trip gets unexpectedly cancelled before departure.
Trip Interruption
Coverage for non-refundable pre-paid travel expenses as well as unexpected flight change fees and accommodations/meals if your trip is interrupted after departure.
Air Flight Accident
Pays specified benefits in the event of injury or death following a flight accident.
Accidental Death and Dismemberment
Pays specified benefits in the event of death or loss of limbs due to an accident while travelling.
Baggage
Coverage for lost, stolen or damaged baggage. Also provides coverage to purchase items while baggage is delayed.

Annual Plans

If you take more than 2 trips per year, it may be less expensive to buy 1 Multiple Trip plan instead of 2 or more Single Trip plans.

Example:

If you are in the 55-75 age group, and you take two 15 day trips in one year, it would cost either:

Single Trip

$X total for two Single Trip Plans

Multi-trip

$X total for a Multi-trip plan PLUS, you will be covered for any more trips (up to 15 days in length) taken within the year.
