Team Up to End Racism program ramps up with school visits
Monday, Jan 27, 2025For the second year, Pacific Blue Cross, in partnership with the BC Lions, will support the program to empower students across British Columbia to confront racism and embrace diversity and inclusion.
There is no offseason when it comes to educating our youth and giving back to the community. The BC Lions are back for 2025, kicking off their annual school tour as players deliver weekly presentations leading up to training camp in May. As part of our mission to improve the health and well-being of all British Columbians, Pacific Blue Cross is proud to support the Team Up to End Racism program in partnership with the BC Lions, reinforcing our commitment to health equity.
Now in its fourth year, Team Up to End Racism is built on four key pillars: the school program, player and alumni ambassadors, resources and education, and awareness through proactive messaging. The pillars aim to educate and empower youth, BC Lions fans and the broader public to embrace a diverse society that fosters inclusiveness, understanding and mutual respect.
Over the past four years, the school program has grown significantly, reflecting the increasing importance of its message. Created in partnership with the BC Lions and the Ministry of Education, the program delivers a powerful 60-minute presentation led by BC Lions players. The session addresses racism and highlights the role each individual can play in fostering inclusiveness, understanding, and respect. This year, ten additional schools will join the program between January and May, bringing the total to 30 schools across ten cities in the province.
As a health benefits society serving 1 in 3 British Columbians, Pacific Blue Cross recognizes our responsibility and ability to create culturally safe and appropriate environments of care. As part of this commitment, we have developed eLearning modules including Intro to Diversity, Beyond Bias, Indigenous Awareness and Diversity in Action. These free resources are available to workplaces or any individual interested in expanding their knowledge.
