Championing Employee Diversity and Inclusion
At Pacific Blue Cross, we know that our success as a company is directly tied to the diversity of our team and our ability to create an inclusive culture that celebrates and values differences. As BC’s largest health care provider, we believe that diversity brings new perspectives and innovative ideas that lead to better health care solutions where every individual is respected and valued for who they are.
In 2023, Pacific Blue Cross (PBC) successfully passed a Pride at Work Audit that reviewed all aspects of our business through the lens of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. As a result of this audit, we launched a new DEI policy, shared “Transitioning Guidelines,” re-communicated our anti racist/anti-discrimination position, launched “Inclusive Language Guidelines,” migrated our internal systems and forms to include four gender options and added a paid leave option for up to five days per year for gender-affirming care.
We also started working with Indigenous Works and successfully completed an Indigenous Workplace Audit, which helped us achieve the Indigenous Works Employer of Choice Certification. We also signed the President’s Group initiative Pledge to Measure to improve the representation of people with disabilities in the workplace and measure disability inclusion in our workplace. Additionally, we introduced gender neutral restrooms, established an onsite lactation room and provided an onsite prayer room.
By listening to and learning from our employees and members, especially those with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives, we ensure that we are not only promoting health equity but also fostering a work environment that celebrates and respects the identities and experiences of our members and employees. We are committed to creating a culture where everyone feels valued, included and empowered to contribute their best, as we continue to build a stronger and more successful Pacific Blue Cross, better serving the needs of all British Columbians.
