We designed our new Health and Dental plan with a focus on meeting the diverse health needs of British Columbians. The plan features comprehensive and flexible options for coverage across three levels—Gold, Silver, and Bronze—as well as some exciting new benefits that promote health equity in our province.

Key dates:

May 1, 2023:

• The new Health and Dental personal health insurance plan will be available for sale to new clients.
• The current Blue Choice personal health insurance plan will no longer be available for sale to new clients.

June 1, 2023:

• Policy effective date of the new Health and Dental plan.

Note: There will be no changes to coverage and claims details for existing Blue Choice plan holders following the new Health and Dental launch on May 1, 2023.

Perfect for:

• Recent grads
• Self-employed, contract or part-time workers

Plan renewals, upgrades and downgrades

Members with the new Health and Dental plan have the flexibility to:

• upgrade their coverage level (eg. Bronze, Silver or Gold) upon plan renewal without a medical review.
• lower their coverage level (eg. Gold to Silver, Silver to Bronze) every two years.

What this means for existing Blue Choice clients

Claims and coverage

There will be no impact to coverage details or claims process for your existing Blue Choice personal health insurance clients after May 1, 2023.

Requests to upgrade

Existing Blue Choice clients who wish to upgrade to the new Health and Dental plan can do so upon plan renewal following medical underwriting. Once approved, new plan members will be subject to the waiting periods outlined under the new plan.
