  1. What is Extended Health Care coverage?

    Our provincial government health care plans, MSP and PharmaCare, cover only the basic medical needs such as a visit to your physician or hospital care. Extended health care coverage includes medical services and supplies NOT covered by our provincial health care plans.

  2. Why is it important for me to have Extended Health Care coverage?

    It is important for individuals and families to have access to extended health care over and above the provincial government plans. Pacific Blue Cross offers extended health coverage which provides coverage for prescription drugs, specialized health care, vision care, dental and much more.

  3. When should I buy this product?

    The ideal time to buy extended health care coverage is when you and/or your family are healthy. Since most extended health care plans exclude coverage for medical conditions you may already have, you need to obtain coverage prior to the occurrence of any future unforeseen accident or sickness.

  4. Who is eligible for this coverage?

    Our Individual Plans are available to all residents of British Columbia and the Yukon provided the resident is enrolled under the Medical Services Plan of BC, or the Health Care Insurance Plan of the Yukon. Coverage will be available for applicants who are awaiting provincial coverage to begin.

    Policyholders must be at least 19 years of age. For people under age 19 who want to apply for coverage under one of our plans, an adult must be designated as the policyholder.

  5. Where and how can I find more information on extended health coverage?

    Pacific Blue Cross has available coverage for health, dental and emergency medical travel. Contact Pacific Blue Cross for more information or to speak with one of our Service Representatives:

Our plan consists of a core health plan with prescription drug and dental coverage options so you can choose the coverage you need.

Vision Care
Pacific Blue Cross covers the cost of prescription lenses, frames, contact lenses and laser eye surgery. This is an increasing benefit coverage up to a predetermined maximum.
Registered Therapists and Health Practitioners
Benefits are paid for visits to: naturopaths, massage therapists, physiotherapists, chiropractors, speech pathologists, chiropodists/podiatrists, psychologists, audiologists, acupuncturists, and nutritionists. This is an increasing benefit coverage up to a predetermined maximum.
Hospital Accommodation
Benefits cover the cost for semi-private or private hospital rooms (no age restrictions).
Hospital Daily Cash Benefit
If you are confined to a hospital, we will pay you $20 a day, for up to 90 days, from the 4th day of hospitalization, up to age 65.
Local Ambulance Private
Benefits cover the cost of ambulance fees in emergencies, including air ambulance and Treat No Transport.

Treat-No-Transport are charges for treatment when an ambulance is called to the scene of an accident or place of illness and transportation to hospital is not required.
Duty Care Nursing
Benefits cover the cost for private duty care nursing in your home, provided the nurse is a Registered Nurse(RN) and care begins immediately following the discharge of an acutely ill bed patient from a hospital, up to a predetermined maximum.
Out-Of-Province, In-Canada Travel
Benefits cover 100% of Out-of-Province and In-Canada medical emergency care.
Medical Services and Supplies
Benefits cover supplies and services not covered by PharmaCare up to a predetermined maximum.
Accidental Dental
Benefits cover up to $2,500 per person for accidental damage to natural teeth.
Accidental Death
Benefits cover the principal sum up to $25,000 (under the age of 70).
Final Expenses Benefit
Benefits cover up to $3,000 for each person.
Survivor Benefit
Benefits begin 12 months following approval of application.

Prescription Drugs
Covers up to a maximum of $500 per year.
Registered Therapists and Health Practitioners
Vision Care
Covers the cost of prescription lenses, frames, contact lenses and laser eye surgery up to $100 per person and $30 for Optometrist.
Registered Therapists and Health Practitioners
Covers visits to massage therapists, physiotherapists, chiropractors, naturopaths, chiropodists, podiatrists, osteopaths, speech pathologists, psychologists, registered dieticians and acupuncturists.
Hospital Accommodation
Covers the cost for a semi-private or private hospital room. (After 12 months on the plan.)
Local Ambulance
Coverage for the cost of ambulance. Includes air ambulance and payment for Treat No Transport charges (when an ambulance is called but transport to hospital is not required).
Nursing care
Private duty nursing care in your home with a Registered Nurse, following the discharge of an acutely ill patient from hospital.
Travel Emergency Medical Care
Covers 100% of out-of-province within Canada medical emergency care.
Medical Services and Supplies
Covers items like casts, crutches, oxygen and oxygen supplies, wheelchairs, hearing aids blood pressure monitors and more.
Accidental Dental
Up to $2,500 per person for accidental damage to natural teeth.
Accidental Death and dismemberment
Principal sum up to $25,000 (under the age of 70).
Final Expenses Benefit
Up to $3,000 for each covered person (after 24 months on the plan if death occurs naturally; immediate coverage for accidental death).
Survivor Benefit
No contributions payable by the beneficiary for 12 months (benefit available for the first 12 months following the approval of the application)
Dental
Covers 80% to a maximum of $400 per person per year including diagnostic expenses, preventive and basic restorative treatments, periodontal cleaning and prosthodontic services.
